Mackinaw City Wedding | Charles + Amanda
Through many conversations and some video chats leading up to their day, it was evident that Charles and Amanda were our kind of people. When we were finally able to meet together face to face on their actual wedding day... it was oh-so sweet. It felt like instant best friends.
We took a little trip for this Mackinaw City Wedding at Headlands International Dark Sky Park. The wait for this day felt like forever but Charles and Amanda were finally able to make their wedding plans work despite all that life (and a pandemic) threw at them. Through many conversations and some video chats leading up to their day, it was evident that Charles and Amanda were our kind of people. When we were finally able to meet together face to face on their actual wedding day... it was oh-so sweet. It felt like instant best friends. Amanda and I (Sarah) even connected over the fact that we share an enneagram type which makes TOTAL sense. Every last detail came together so beautifully on their wedding day and we couldn't believe how comfortable we felt amongst their family and friends as we celebrated them FINALLY saying 'I do'. Can we talk about just how giddy these two were to marry each other?! They were giggling together the entire day and had us crying with emotions whilst grinning ear to ear at the same time. It was one of the sweetest days and we will definitely remember it, and the friends we made from it, forever & ever. Congratulations once again, Charles and Amanda! Thank you for choosing us to capture your love on your wedding day.

Heath and Emma | Traverse City Wedding
I’ve known Heath and Emma individually for quite some time. I was so happy when they first started dating — they are the perfect match. So you can imagine my excitement when Heath eventually popped the question and shortly after we received an inquiry from Emma to photograph their wedding!

Because I have known Heath and Emma for years, it was no surprise that I knew most of their wedding guests as well. Even my own parents were there. They had offered to babysit our baby daughter for the night so we got to visit with them during dinner--so fun!
They were married at a family's property right on the water with a gorgeous view. We started with an emotional first look with Emma's dad. Their interactions had us tearing up. How sweet it was to see him look at his gorgeous daughter with such love in his eyes. From there, Emma moved right into her first look with Heath. Heath tried his best to keep it together when he saw his bride, but it didn't take much to get them both crying as well.
Heath and Emma, we were absolutely honored to celebrate your wedding day with you. We are so excited for what your future holds! Congratulations once again!

Traverse City Proposal | Tommy + Caroline
These two were the absolute cutest. There was so much tears and laughter as she said yes and tried on her ring for the first time. Tommy pointed us out across the bridge because Caroline hadn’t even noticed us in the midst of it all.
Photographing this Traverse City proposal was the sweetest adventure, from start to finish. Caroline's sister Madyson reached out originally. She was so supportive and excited for her sister and future brother-in-law. She coordinated a video chat for us to 'meet' with Tommy and chat about the details of the proposal. We discussed his plans for the moment and how he wanted to celebrate with a surprise picnic afterward. Caroline didn't know who we were or what we looked like so we decided to hide in plain sight, disguised as normal hikers enjoying the view from the bridge. Tommy had sent a photo of the two of them so when we noticed them making their way to the bridge where we were, we knew it was about to happen. They talked for a few minutes a ways away from us but as soon as Tommy reached into his pocket for the ring, we turned around with our cameras to capture the moment and Caroline's reaction. These two were the absolute cutest. There was so much tears and laughter as she said yes and tried on her ring for the first time. Tommy pointed us out across the bridge because Caroline hadn't even noticed us in the midst of it all. That was our goal! After wiping some tears from each other's cheeks, Tommy led Caroline to her next surprise, a gorgeous picnic for two set up by the creek. The kicked off the picnic with a champagne pop and we left to allow them to celebrate together. Congratulations Tommy and Caroline. Thank you for inviting us into such a special occasion and trusting us to capture it.

John and Sarah | Traverse City Wedding
We had such a blast with John and Sarah on their wedding day! The colors of fall were absolutely exploding across the horizon. Of course we had to take advantage of the scenery and vibrancy of autumn for their photos.
We had such a blast with John and Sarah on their wedding day! The colors of fall were absolutely exploding across the horizon. Of course we had to take advantage of the scenery and vibrancy of autumn for their photos. From the loveliest handmade gift during final prep, to a beautifully intimate ceremony, their 10-minute rule, a trek to the Traverse City State Hospital for photos, and a simple backyard reception, it was our joy to celebrate their marriage. To make things even more special, John and Sarah made a short stop at Traverse City's Dairy Lodge to take a few photos at a location so pivotal in their relationship. We love it when we are able to photograph such unique and personal details for our couples. We photographed their engagement session in 2019 at the Sleeping Bear Dunes, their wedding in 2020, and we were blessed to meet up with them this year, 2021--exactly one year after their wedding-- for a beautiful anniversary session. John and Sarah have become like friends to us. We can't wait to see what the future holds for them.
Starry Night Barn Wedding | Rob + Julia
This September Starry Night Barn wedding was small, intimate, and beautiful. Like most 2020 wedding couples, Rob and Julia were faced with the difficult decision of changing wedding plans. With so much unknown about what would unfold in the next few months, Rob and Julia decided to postpone their wedding from June to September.

With so much unknown about what would unfold in the next few months, Rob and Julia decided to postpone their wedding from June to September. They knew that no matter what, they wanted to get married that year and we were honored to celebrate that moment with them. Despite not every guest being able to attend in person, many joined in the wedding celebrations via Zoom as the couple exchanged vows. After the ceremony, Rob and Julia greeted their online guests and shared in the new excitement of being husband and wife.
The rest of their day was peaceful and relaxing surrounded by the gorgeous scenery of Northern Michigan. We snuck out with them during sunset and even caught the beginnings of fall colors in the trees.
Congratulations Rob + Julia!

Traverse City Barn Wedding | Ben + Joanna
We have been waiting to post this Traverse City Barn Wedding for a long time. Get ready to laugh, cry, and feel your heart swell. We have been friends with Ben and Joanna for a number of years. When Miles and I got engaged, Ben and Joanna photographed our engagement session AND wedding. So it was an honor to do the same for them.
Traverse City Barn Wedding
We have been waiting to post this Traverse City Barn Wedding for a long time. Get ready to laugh, cry, and feel your heart swell. We have been friends with Ben and Joanna for a number of years. When Miles and I got engaged, Ben and Joanna photographed our engagement session AND wedding. So it was an honor to do the same for them. We photographed their engagement session earlier in the year. You can see that post HERE. After that session, we were all the more excited for their wedding day and we can honestly say that it did not disappoint. Ben and Joanna are wholeheartedly in love with one another and you can feel it emanating from every photograph.
Ben and Joanna were planning a May 2020 wedding when for obvious reasons, their plans were disrupted. After going back and forth on what they should do, Ben and Joanna decided to postpone their wedding a few months. It was important to them to celebrate with their closest friends and family. Instead of early spring, Ben and Joanna settled on the beginning of August. It ended up being absolutely perfect.
This Traverse City barn wedding took place at none other than Joanna's family house. While Ben got ready with his guys, final beard trimming and hair combing, Joanna got ready at her childhood home surrounded by her lovely bridesmaids.
Instead of doing a first look with Ben, Joanna opted to do a first look with her bridesmaids. It was such a special moment between them all.
Because they didn't do a first look, everyone at the ceremony witnessed Ben's emotional reaction to seeing his Bride for the first time on their wedding day. As Joanna's father escorted her down the aisle, Ben simply couldn't catch his breath. His reaction had all of us sobbing. We could barely even see through our viewfinders in our cameras because we were crying so hard! Even now looking back at the photos makes me super emotional.
All in all, it was the perfect August day celebrating these two.
